The wait to get a high quality drone is over. At the beginning of April I bought one of the first Mavic Air’s to arrive in the stores of Winnipeg, and last night I took it for its maiden voyage. Two things surprised me about the drone, and one thing didn’t. First I was surprised with just how noisy it is. I’ve had smaller drones that are whisper quiet, and  I expected to noise to grow proportionally to the size, but this drone is very loud. Second I was surprised and impressed with just how easy this is to fly. Again comparing it to my smaller less intelligent drones, this thing practically flies itself.

The thing that didn’t surprise me – much to my relief – is the quality of the footage. It wasn’t a windy night, but there was a breeze, and yet at times when I was plying back the video I had to look to see if it was paused. It is that steady.

After one flight I know I am just scratching the surface of the settings and options with this drone, but I’m going to thoroughly enjoy figuring them all out over the coming months. Til then enjoy a short video from its first flight…
